Many home owners want to get a preliminary stucco cost for their budget without having to take the time of contractors to get stucco prices. You CAN do this yourself, to get a rough estimate / budget for a proper job. Keep in mind that there are many factors affecting the actual, final cost of a synthetic stucco siding, including:

- number of windows and doors;
- number of floors;
- the type of substrate;
- moulding selection;
- geographical location;
- landscaping surrounding your house;
- time of year;
- which manufacturer is used; etc.
When all is said and done though, the average home owner will find their final price to be somewhere in the $10.00-$11.00 per SF (square foot, of wall space) range for a warrantable, professional job. It is common to get contractors who will give you a $7.00-$9.00 per SF price to lure home owners into working with them, then overcharge them for "extras" (which are required by the manufacturer but weren't included in the original quote). If that happens, you will want to check some of their references for the quality of their work, and be extra careful with the type of material they're using. Always check a quote against the quote of another contractor to ensure that they have included all of the required elements. Don't show them another contractor's quote either -- seeing if they include vital items without being told to will tell you a lot about a contractor.
In the end, those "inexpensive" contractors will get you up to roughly $11 per SF with the "extras", or leave them out entirely -- leaving you with a poor job.
DIY Stucco EstimatingNow you're wondering, how do I estimate the square footage to get a final cost? Here are 3 simple steps to do it yourself
- Measure the length of all the walls you want done, multiply by the height, so as to "square it off", write it down
- Measure the area of triangles and irregular shapes (triangles = base * height / 2), add this to step 1
- Measure the area of doors and windows, add these all up and substract it from the total from step 2
There you are! Multiply the result from step 3 by $10.00 and you have what should be the final cost of your stucco for a legit stucco job, including moldings, flashing, caulking, etc -- depending on geographic location and other factors.

Factors to consider when budgetting your own stucco job:
- Dormers, bay windows and other small sections will cost you more per square foot;
- Small jobs such as: just the front of a house; or with many windows will cost more per square foot;
- 2 and 3 story houses will cost more due to time spent setting up, dismantling and climbing scaffolding;
- A low price from a contractor may result in items being left off, or poor workmanship. Generally, you get what you pay for;
- Thicker insulation may cost more, but will further reduce heat loss/gain;
- There are over $5,000 in rebates available for homes in Ontario;
- The more prices you get and contractors you see, the better your chances of not missing something;
- Hiring a contractor who does a poor quality job can cost over $50,000 in removal, re-application and lawyer fees
- Paying an experienced, 3rd party professional to ensure the job is done properly pays off in the end.
